Tom Cruise's upcoming WW2 film, Valkyrie, has been plagued with problems - with the release date now being held back until 2009.The film, which details the 1944 assassination plot against Adolf Hitler, has been dogged by several postponements in production.Most importantly, early test screenings for the film have been lukewarm, with gopher audiences commenting that Cruise's attempt at a German accent was not up to scratch.The film has the potential to be doubly damaging for Cruise, who is not only acting as German officer Claus von Stauffenberg, but is also involved in the production of the film through his stake in United Artists, the studio making the film.Cruise's previous United Artists release, "Lions for Lambs" was also a critical and a commercial flop.It seems that Cruise's recent ugly attack on Brooke Shields -- blaming the failure of her career on the use of psychiatry to control her post-natal depression -- has come back to haunt him.The ever-increasing failure of Cruise's career may be, at least partly, due to former fans becoming disenchanted with his continual and manic promotion of Scientology -- and the fact that Scientology has been ruthlessly attacked in the past year by online group, 'Anonymous'.Anonymous has labelled Scientology as a Cult and has carried out hacker-style attacks on its websites as well as organizing Peaceful Protests at its churches around the world.The group accuses Scientology of brainwashing, charging exorbitant fees for Its teachings, of having a policy of Disconnecting adherents from their families and of harassing opponents of the belief system.In recent years Scientology's campaigns against psychiatry and videos of Tom Cruise extolling the virtues of the religion have also brought negative press to the religion, especially in the United States.By co-incidence, the leaking of the failure of "Valkyries" coincided withyesterday's International day of protest by 'Anonymous'.

I've just watched the trailer for the film and Cruise doesn't talk with a German accent... however if he sounded crap they might have dubbed over the original sound track for the trailer so you just don't know, either way it looks rather a poor showing and I won't be going to see it.
