The father of the girl who was allegedly turned into a sexual dominatrix said he was shocked by what his daughter told him.Bill, who didn't want his last name used, said his daughter came to him two years ago to tell him what had been happening to her since she was 12.The girl said that a family friend named Todd B. Barkau, 35, was having violent sex with her and that he had her engage in online and in-person encounters under the name "Mistress Alisha."Bill said he was overwhelmed when he finally got to see his daughter again and when he heard her story."She just went into this story of what happened to her over the last six years, how she had been on the Internet doing the Mistress Alisha thing, how she had actually met some people as well, and you can imagine as a father I'm just sitting there with my jaw to the ground going, 'Oh my God,'" Bill told KMBC's Peggy Breit. "She really tried to spare me a lot of the, you know, graphic details, and I really didn't want to know, you know? I mean, it's not something a father wants to hear."Bill said he took his daughter to the FBI. She is the youngest of Bill's three daughters.Bill said he hadn't seen his daughter since she was 12 because of complications that arose during his divorce.Barkau and the girl's mother, whose name isn't being used in an effort to protect the daughter's identity, were charged in a seven-count indictment released Monday. Both used to live in Blue Springs, Mo., in the same household.From Jan. 1, 2002, until Feb. 20, 2005, Barkau created a venture to entice the minor to engage in commercial sex acts, according to the indictment."From what my daughter said, (Barkau) would get her silly drunk to get her to, you know, do these things," Bill said.U.S. Attorney John Wood said the case is the first in which a parent of the victim has been charged with the commercial sex trafficking of his or her own minor childBill said he had always been concerned about Barkau and how close his daughter became to him."I knew he was a little strange, but nobody expects this type of behavior from normal people," Bill said.Bill said he called Missouri's child abuse hot line, but he said when workers visited the Blue Springs duplex, they found nothing wrong.He said when his daughter finally got in touch with him, he found out how deep the problem was."My ex-wife had her own room, and my youngest daughter had shared a room with Todd," Bill said. Bill said his ex-wife deserves to be in prison."This is a person who needs to pay for her crimes. Definitely with Todd, he never needs to see the light of day," Bill said.As for his daughter, Bill said he understands the pressure she was under and why she didn't tell anyone what was going on until she ran away at age 17."'If I tell on this kind of stuff, he's going to kill himself.' Somebody you're emotionally attached to -- that's a very difficult situation to be put into, and I think there were also other threats and coercions and physical threats against her as well," Bill said.The daughter also spoke to KMBC on Wednesday and said she's doing well. She just turned 21 this week, and she still lives in the Kansas City area.If convicted, both Barkau and the girl's mother could spend life in prison.
